Holnemvolt Children’s Halloween

Holnemvolt Castle

Holnemvolt Castle, a children’s complex next to the Budapest Zoo, awaits visitors with a Halloween-themed night, with many activities and attractions. Besides the park’s regular offerings, there will be fire juggling, face painting, ghosts, zombies and delicious pumpkin treats. The event is free of charge for children under 14 who arrive in costume.

Pumpkin Lantern Charity Festival

27. October Saturday: 19.00 – 21.00

Heroes’ Square

Get a pumpkin lantern and some canned soups, pasta or other non-perishable food and come together with others on Hősök tere. The food items go to a non-profit organizations, called Gyermekétkeztetési Alapítvány (Child Nutrition Foundation).

Trick or Treat

Ráday Street

Take your kids for some Trick or Treat fun in Ráday street, a popular restaurant street between Kálvin Square and Boráros Square.

Some of the places that welcome trick or treaters in their costumes:

Pumpkin and Mulled Wine

Bring a Jack-o-Lantern to the participating restaurants, cafes and you will be rewarded with a glass of mulled wine.

Halloween Nightmare Tour

27 – 31. October

A 30-minute scary tour in an interactive horror labyrinth: according to the official event page:

“You will experience your worst fears in this scenic, action packed and adrenaline filled tour where you will meet with diffenerent kind of monsters along the way. Your experience is guaranteed by our realistic, unique, handmade theatricals and stage-set as well as our creatures of the darkness. You wish you were dreaming!”

Béla Lugosi is dead

Even though Hungary doesn’t officially mark Halloween, it still has a famous ghoul to celebrate. Actor Béla Lugosi appeared as Count Dracula on Broadway and in the classic 1931 film, for which he became widely known. He inspired Goth band Bauhaus, whose first single, Bela Lugosi’s Dead, was released in 1979. On 31 October at the Béla Bar, you can participate in an event in his honour, with spooky decorations and a tribute band.

Día de Muertos – Latin Party

The Day of the Dead  celebrations in Mexico developed from ancient traditions. People believe that the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31, and the spirits of all deceased children (angelitos) are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. Families make colorful altars in their homes in honor of their deceased loved ones,which are decorated with flowers, candles, their loved one’s favorite food and pan de muerto (a slightly sweet bread specifically made for this time).
