National Gallop is an annual cultural event celebrating Hungarian equestrian traditions. It’s a horse race, reviving the Hungarian military history and the famous ‘hussar’ culture. The center of the event is a national horse race, a spectacular show, where towns and villages of Hungary prove their horse riding skills.
The event takes place in Heroes’ Square, which is turned into a huge race course and covered with sand.
There are plenty of sausage, wine and pálinka festivals in Budapest, so here is an event for those of us with a sweet tooth. Budapest’s annual Chocolate and Candy Festival promises to be a sweet culinary event that offers participants a chance to experience everything cocoa products have to offer. For three days, chocolate will be featured in all its magnificent and tasty forms.
Several multinational companies, chocolate craftsmen, producers and traders from Hungary and abroad will be in attendance at Sweet Days to tempt you with their delicacies. Fruits, seeds, coffee, vanilla, various syrups, honey, fine wines and sweet drinks will accompany the chocolate and candy at the festival. Evening entertainment includes musical programs and live concerts accompanied by drinks and fine wine.
The Jewish Cultural Festival in Budapest is a great opportunity to find out everything about Hungarian Jewish culture. As usual the festival offers a colourful array of programs at several locations in Budapest: klezmer and jazz concerts, movie screenings, theatre performances. Come to the Hungarian capital at the end of summer, and visit some of the programs of this unique event to make your stay even more memorable!
This year the Cultural Heritage Days will be focusing on the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 as well as the theme of Nature and Heritage. You can go on some unique guided walk tours to find out on some less commonly known sights of the city. Many other programs await visitors as well: activities for children, free concerts on Kossuth Square at the Parliament and in St. Anne Church etc. Programs are free.
Vintage Market
If you love vintage style accessories, furniture or textiles, head for this downtown market in Ötkert. You will surely find something exciting among the many items: retro-style graphic prints, fridge magnets, jewellery, vintage lamps, handmade lace, kitchen and garden accessories.
Burgers, barbecue and other street food, as well as craft beer will be in the focus for 4 days in Millenáris Park, Buda’s popular leisure venue.
Entry is free (you have to buy a beer mug for 1 200 HUF to be served beer). Payment is with HelloPay card, cash is not accepted.
You can taste wines by the 33 young Hungarian wine makers and also meet and talk to them on the Szent István Square. Good wine is even better with good food! The following street food will be offered during the 4 day: Twist & Chips, Zing Burger, Lakatos Műhely, SteamBOO, Ricsi’s World Jewish Street Food, POPS! Ice Cream, Castello Cheese.
