SütniCake Cake Festival

If you love cakes, creamy gateaus then you must visit the third SütniCake festival held in Hotel Gellért.
The best confectioneries, pastry shops, cake designers will be present (Daubner, Cake Shop, Sugar just to name a few) whose delicacies you can taste during the two-day event.
This year the torte design contest’s theme is Women and Movies.
The jury of renowned professionals will chose the winner that can be seen along with the other works.
Other programs include:torte design, cupkcake decorating, praline making and other “sweet” workshops.
Opening Hours: Saturday – Sunday: 10.00 – 18.00
Tickets:
  • Adult: 2 000 HUF
  • Student/Retiree: 1 000 HUF
  • Family (2 adults + 2 kids between ages 6-12): 5 000 HUF
  • Free for children under the age of 3
You can pay only with cash at the festival site.

Art Market/Art Photo

The Art Market is the Central European region’s biggest contemporary art fair and festival.
Nearly 100 exhibitors and art projects from more than 25 countries will be showcasing their works on 6 000 sqm.
Besides the exhibition, you can choose from around 50 programs:
  • guided tour in English and Hungarian,
  • book launches,
  • discussions,
  • performances.

Budapest Design Week

The 10-day event is organised for the 13th time and it brings the cream-of-the-crop of Hungarian and international designers to Budapest. Lots of programs to choose from, just to name a few of the main ones:
  • Workshops
  • Exhibitions
  • Gastronomy programs: special brunches and foodie programs
  • Design tours (pre-registration is required).

Visit design studios and talk to the designers to see how they work. Some of the studios you can visit in October:
  • Hellowood Studio (Végvár utca 2 – 4., distr. III., staircase: 3) 11.  October: 11.00 – 21.00
  • PRINTA (Rumbach S. utca 10/A, distr. VII:) 11. October,: 14.00 – 16., 17.00 – 19.00 – learn about the design and making of the AWARE apparel

Sekler Cake Festival

12 – 14. October, 2018

Gesztenyés kert, Buda

You can bake your own sekler cake, a traditional Transylvanian pastry in cylinder shape baked on open fire then coated with sugar, ground walnut, cinnamon or coconut flakes.
Opening Hours: October: 12.00 – 22.00
Entry: FREE
Transylvanian and Hungarian wines, pálinka, craft chocolate and other goodies make the 5th Sekler Cake Festival a great weekend program in October. Lots of activities, games for children in the Gyerekliget area. Programs each day in the Charcoal Courtyard where you can see a grill show, have food made on charcoal that you can wash down with craft beer.
You’ll learn to roll the dough onto the bake roll then bake it on special Bake ‘n Roll party ovens.

Budapest International Marathon – Recommended by CNN

With nearly 20 000 participants the Budapest Marathon has evolved into a major sport event during its nearly 30 decades of history. The 42 km route includes the most scenic part of the city (the Danube banks with the bridges, Castle Hill, Gellért Hill, Heroes’ Square) all part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage program. Even CNN felt that the Budapest Marathon must be included in its month-by-month Running Calendar in which they recommend an exciting race from all over the world for each month.

CAFe Budapest Contemporary Art Festival

05 – 21. October, 2018

MÜPA-Palace of Arts, Liszt Academy, Trafó,  Bálna/Whale Building, exhibition centres, concerts halls, public areas in Budapest
Fans of classical music, modern dance performances, theatre, jazz concerts, art exhibitions will have plenty of programs to choose from during the 17-day festival, previously known as the Budapest Autumn Festival.
Tickets: at various prices depending on performance (usually a couple of 1000 Forints), can be bought
  • at the festival centre at 11., Liszt Ferenc tér, district VI.: Monday-Friday: 10.00-18.00
  • or online through the festival’s website.

Hungarian Sausage & Pig Slaughter Festival

12 – 14. October, 2018

Hungarian Railway Museum and Park, Tatai út 95.

Lots of gastronomy and other programs in the Hungarian Railway Museum and Park:
  • Drink and eat traditional pork dishes, sausages, salamis
  • Folk playground
  • Jumping castle
  • Folk craft fair
  • Craft workshops
  • Old timer tractor and other agricultural machine exhibition
  • Many concerts
  • You can also view the exhibited steam engines, trains, rail model tables and try the activities (for a fee) of the museum.
