Visit the traditional Christmas Markets:

@Vorosmarty Square: The biggest and oldest, internationally acclaimed Budapest Christmas fair is the Christmas Market on Vorosmarty Square in the heart of the city (since 1998).

Christmas Market by the Basilica:

You will find beautiful artisan products and special Hungarian Delicacies (e.g Chimney Cake) at the Budapest Basilica Christmas Fair, right in front of our hotel.

Budapest Ice Rink:

The enormous and lovely open air Ice Rink of Budapest is an ideal New Year attraction. Skating on the paired with a night bath in Szechenyi Bath is one of the best winter activities to do in Budapest!

It has mad it to the Top 10 list of Lonely Planet as one of the best places in Europe in winter time, paired with a warm bath in one of the Budapest baths, and a visit to the cool and hip ruin bars, some of the best bars in Budapest.

The open air Ice Rink is a truly popular venue for skating, skiing, skating classes, ice hockey and even ice parties.

Opposite the Ice Rink Palace you can find the Vajdahunyad Castle the venue of the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum all year round

In the Outdoor Ice Rink Palace you can rent skates, drink hot beverages, get changed, get warmed up etc.

Wamp Design Fair dates:

Design fair. It’s a community event taking place once or more than once a month in the hub of Budapest where emerging Hungarian designers showcase their works. A place where design meets urban Hungarians, tourists and ex pats. It is also a meeting place for creative and trend setter young people. WAMP opens to the world once a year, and invites the greatest talents and design professionals from around the globe to showcase their work and talent in Budapest

Outdoor events for New Years Eve:

  • Nyugati Square (M3 metro line, trams No. 4, 6) – always a popular meeting point and it’s no different on the last eve of the year.
  • Oktogon (trams  No 4, 6) – close to Nyugati tér, at the junction of the Grand Boulevard and Andrássy Av.
  • the Party District – Gozsdu Court and other parts of district VII. – the eclectic Jewish Qrtr., home to the ruin pubs: Kazinczy Street, Király Street, Dob Str.

Spectacular fireworks welcome the New Year on all three locations. Don’t forget to put on warm clothes, because last days of December tend to be chilly in Budapest.

Even those who have been carousing in a restaurant or bar, pour out onto the streets and celebrate the New Year with singing, dancing and blowing paper horns.
