THE MAGAZINE HOTEL SHORTLIST: BEST PROGRAMS IN OCTOBER

Budapest offers a plenty of entertainment and lot of interesting programs in October. You can try the famous chimney cake or you can visit some workshops and fashion events during Budapest Design Week. Here are our favourite events we highly recommend to attend.

06-15.10.2017. BUDAPEST DESIGN WEEK

Budapest Design Week is already a 10-day festival of programs, which marks a strong position in the long line of European festivals. The festival offers more than 120 programs in 2017. Apart from social usefulness, it attempts to place an emphasis on the economic role of design: it aims to draw the attention of economic policy-makers and Hungarian entrepreneurs to the potentials of design, the importance of a design-conscious way of thinking, which supports the competitiveness of Hungarian businesses and provides them with a competitive eadge over rivals by delivering more added value.

To support this aim, the events include programs both for the public at large (inaugurations of exhibitions, programs for children, thematic tours, workshop visits) and for the profession (round table discussions, professional lectures, conferences, prize winning galas, etc.), and other elements that would explicitly support the work of economic policy-makers (investors’ meetings, introduction of case studies, lectures, workshops). Beside their own programs, organisers also provide a chance for professional partners to introduce themselves (museums, institutions, schools, shops, design studios, galleries, etc.).

10.10.2017. 19:30 BLOOM GASTRO DESIGN EVENT

This year, the theme of Nedill food design’s event is life hidden in seeds, which finds its way yet in most difficult places. Designer Zsuzsi Matók combines the experience of movie set making and food styling with design thinking, where aesthetical experiments meet unusual, edible ingredients.

13.10.2017. 21:00 BUDAPEST DESIGN WEEK PARTY

Brody Studios opens its doors again to welcome special guests from the fields of art, design, architecture, music, film etc. for a round table talk hosted by William Clothier, co-founder of the Brody House Group. Join them for a night of contemporary Hungarian design and combine the experience with fabulous drinks and yummy burgers.

13.10.2017. BOOM’S DESIGN FASHION AND EMBRIODERY DESIGN FASHION SHOW

At Boom’s Design fashion show, the brand presents its unique clothes and accessories – all of them decorated with embroidery and other techniques. At the event, followed by a party, everyone will find a piece that fits their personal style.

01-04.10.2017. OCTOBERFEST BUDAPEST

Octoberfest Budapest promises to be the city’s biggest celebration of the favorite malty beverage. The festival brings about 100 domestic and international beer types to beer-lovers. Well known breweries along with lesser-known microbreweries will showcase their products in City Park (Városliget).

There will be plenty of tasty fare to pair with your beer and several live performances to keep everyone entertained. Just like ‘the’ Octoberfest in Munich, Germany, Octoberfest Budapest will also feature an agricultural fair.

The three-day event starts Thursday, October 1, at 10 am.

09-11.10.2017. CHIMNEY CAKE FESTIVAL

Budapest’s new gastro festival, the Chimney Cake Festival, promises to be a fun and delicious event. Visitors can learn everything about the sweet, spiral-shaped ‘kürtőskalács’, a traditional pastry, that is so popular in Hungary. The festival offers a wide variety of chimney cakes, prepared over charcoal or fried in oil, plain or rolled into various toppings. There will be drawing contests for kids, magic shows, baking contests and lots of live music.

12-18.10.2017. BUDAPEST RESTAURANT WEEK

Following in the successful footsteps of restaurant weeks worldwide, the first Budapest Restaurant Week was held in May 2011. The 2015 event is scheduled from Oct 12th to 18th.

The Budapest Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to enjoy good food at discount prices at some of Budapest’s top restaurants. There are over 30 restaurants participating in the event. Each restaurant will offer a special, three course prix fixe dinner and lunch menu for HUF 3,300 so guests can sample their tasty fare. The menu includes an appetizer with an entrée and dessert.

Reservations are required and have to be made online via etteremhet.hu, the official site of the Budapest Restaurant Week.
